Here we are, the end of the road… this whole year, everything we’ve accomplished has come down to the finale come Wednesday night. To be honest as I’m sitting in my chair at the computer, I already feel goosebumps and anxiety starting to set in. At first impression I thought it was nerves, that sickening feeling you get when something big is about to happen, but this is not that. It’s more of an excitement, the realization that our entire season has built up to this one match, and man that gets me pumped up. Hell, we’ve had one awesome a season so far; the Purple Cobras of 2011 have dazzled crowds to no end with large patches of spectacular play, leaving no regrets out on the park and now we’ve reached the last hurdle in the race. This isn’t going to be a long message, wanna try keep it short and sweet because there is not much more to be said, the weatherman covered a lot of it, and the rest is for us to go do on Wednesday night, and I can feel it, by god I can feel it. Every message on the bbm group, every wallpost or conversation is proof how we’ve grown as a squad over this year. Whether someone has played one game or eight, every Cobras member is as excited as the next, and that’s what sets us apart, we are a family. So let’s do this, let’s show them why we are UCT’S NUMBER 1!!! Camaaaan Cobras!!!!

Sorry... I got a little carried away there. Just needed to get that off my chest. Sorry guys. Sorry Raubs, sorry Bailo, sorry Callan, sorry Dil, sorry Junks, sorry Evan, sorry Jamie, sorry Khots. Sorry everyone. Sorry to let you down with that little outburst. I let my emotions get the better of me. But to be honest with you guys, the prospect of this final is a bit bitter, sweet I must say. I am a long way from my home, my physical home and my spiritual home. So what am I meant to do exactly? I mean... I am excited and I am jealous. I am pumped up, but strangely deflated. The prospect of the Cobras winning another trophy is bringing out all sorts of emotions I didn’t realize I possessed. Knowing that our boys face the final and biggest challenge of the season and I can’t be there to contribute makes me a little sad. But this isn’t about me it’s about the Cobras. I went out for dinner last night. A place called Megan’s. Quite nice. Looked like the entire restaurant had been pulled out of an interior decorator catalogue. Jar full of dried lemon rinds for aroma. Tick. Simple, yet elegant tables. Tick. The limited menu that says; “hey, we don’t do a lot of food, but what we do do, we do really well.” Tick. Quirky music pouring out of some hidden speaker that says; "we provide an intimate setting, but we're still here to have fun." Tick. Dull conversation with a girl you’ve never met about a job you don’t care about. Tick. The one irritating girl who doesn’t laugh at your insanely funny comments, and keeps rolling her eyes at you. Tick. The annoying hipster who makes the most obvious observations about the most obvious comments, that you had thought of ages ago but chose not to say because it was too bloody obvious, and then every one laughs with him like he’s some kind of fucking genius. Tick. Basically the kind of restaurant and the kind of night you’re happy to write off at ten. I was roped into it and it won’t happen again. I promise. I promise Shane, I promise Poen, I promise Dino, I promise Marzie, I promise Armo, I promise Warren, I promise Tom, I promise Fridge. (Not Hawski though, Hawski looooves those kinds of evenings. Hawski may or may not have brought his guitar along. Hawski may or may not be the guy who takes his jersey off at the table without keeping his t -shirt down to reveal just the slightest glimpse of a torso that even Ryan Reynolds would be proud of. Hawski may or may not be 'that guy'. Who knows).

Anyway. So we’re chatting away- you know: casual like- and one of the other guys at the table chirps up; “so Dugald do you think Oxford would beat UCT if they had to play a game against each other?” I took a moment because my comment obviously has some serious ramifications and I wasn’t about to get into an argument about such a thing in Megan's. Oh no... Not Megan's, not with el diablo (the bitch sitting opposite me) staring me down. So I simply said;” not sure about that but I am positive the Cobras would beat them both!” Now we all know the Cobras would struggle against UCT First XV. It would be a good game. A bit like Wales VS South Africa, but you always know that a Cobras win is unlikely- less so now that our team is starting to actually resemble the UCT First XV. But that’s not really the point. The point is that we have that beautiful sense of ability that courses through our veins. That inherent self- belief instilled in every member of the Cobras family. This, I believe, is what really separates the Cobras from every other team in the league.

I remember (fuck that sounds old) the days when we first came into the league and we played against a Nadoes team that resembled a French club side more than it did a UCT internal league team. I’ll never forget that game when a young long, greasy haired Graeme Steen was destroyed in a late tackle by the then UCT First team Captain who had at least six years on him. Graeme didn’t moan, didn’t winge to the ref, he just got up and got on with the game. Hard as fucking nails. I remember Wayne Wayzie, a New Zealander drafted in by UCT First XV for the season coming on for them and butchering our players. But fuck me did we get stuck in! Do you think Nick FW stood back and said; “well guys let’s just have fun, we can’t win.” We knew, and he knew that we couldn’t win, but that didn’t stop Nick shitting on us for missing tackles or dropping balls. In that first season the true Cobras ethos of battling for every inch was born. We’ve seen many clubs come and go. Turtles, MOB, SOcO Thocos or whatever their shit names were, all faded like most teams do when they play the Cobras. Those are the foundations on what is today a group of people who live to kill themselves every Wednesday night for the love of their team mates.

So where are we now? Five years on, new faces, new songs but the same fundamental attitude remains. The songs and the change room sessions are a big part of who we are, but it’s that desire to fight every minute of every game that sets us apart from the rest. None of that arrogant Nadoes; we were here first bullshit, just stoic belief in ourselves, and the guys around us. If it isn’t Kyle Rennie picking from the base then it’s Cal groveling at the bottom of the ruck. If it’s not Warren Butler slotting from the half- way line then it’s Poenie sizing up the man in front of him and shunting him backwards. If it isn’t Raubs leg driving then it’s Rayaann sliding effortlessly into the corner. If it isn’t you, then it will be one of your team- mates.

So what am I going to do on Wednesday night? I could ask Mano From Heaven to sort out a live feed for me, but I don’t want to take his focus off the game. I could ask Dil to give me continuous live updates, but unfortunately the oke is arguably the least reliable human being when it comes to answering calls or messages. Bailes would give me brilliant accounts of the game, he could probably even give me all the heights and weights of every player on the pitch. James Bailes is rugby! I could ask any one of the many Cobras crew that will be lining the field, hopefully hurling abuse and encouragement in equal measure (Encouragement!). But I won't.

The truth is I choose to rely on the abrupt score updates from my father. His massive fingers are not ideal for typing text messages on a cold evening on the Green mile, but he’ll persevere because he knows what the Cobras means to me. It’s part of our family now. I think my mum gave up giving me lectures on going to lectures on Thursdays a long time ago because she knows what Wednesday night means. When my bro started playing for Cobras in matric the Cobras logo was sewn on to the chest of every piece of clothing in the house. (That's figuratively speaking. Can hear a couple of you slower lads- not necessarily the props- going: ahhh what? You see what I have tried to do there is explain just how much my family loves the Cobras. How it means something to us. You see? Sure? I could explain it again.) Anyway- we love the Cobras.

So bring me that fucking trophy gentlemen! I want to be tossing in my bed on Wednesday night, I want to be haunted by the thoughts of all of you drinking yourselves to a stand still. I want to wake up sweating with Kyyyyyyyyyle, Kyyyyyyyyyle Rennie! ringing in my ears. I want to feel that cold, wet cement floor on my knees as I go down for one last 'Hoist up the Cobras sail...' I want to fall asleep quietly singing; “I wanna go home, I wanna goo hoooooooooome! This is the best team I’ve ever played for!” da dada da dada…. And on Wednesday night I will truly know what that song means. Those words will never hold such weight as they are going to on Wednesday. I am going to celebrate by myself, not necessarily on Wednesday night but come Friday, I'll have a beer or two, sure.

So that’s my little contribution chaps (Graeme Steen voice). It’s not much, but it’s about all I can give you at this point. It’s not Al Pacino, but it’s probably the best I’ve got. Probably. Much better in person. Of course. If you win, massive sesh at my house on my return. If you lose… Well who we’re kidding. THE COBRAS. DON’T FUCKING. LOSE!

It's Semifinal time as The Cobras look to progress to the final of the 2011 Internal League. After a big performance in the Quaters against a powerful Ubumbo side, the boys in purple and white will be looking to add to this when they take on the Wild Boys this Wednesday night.

The two teams have met many times in the past, with the record looking like this:

2007: The Cobras 26 - 14 Wild Boys

2009: The Cobras 28 - 5 Wild Boys, The Cobras 25 - 17 Wild Boys

2011: The Cobras 24 - 0 Wild Boys

The Cobras 41 - 8 Ubumbo

The Cobras produced their best performance of the year to smash a physical Ubumbo side 41-8 in perfect rugby conditions last night.

The Cobras dominated from the start keeping the ball in hand and taking it through phase after phase, after a spilt ball Ubumbo showed how dangerous they can be when giving space as with some slick hands they went through to score in the corner to take the lead, 5-0. After some sturn words and some great patience The Cobras worked their way into the Ubumbo half and were awarded a penalty which Warren converted to make the score 5-3. After this The Cobras turned it on as they ran in tries for the rest of the evening, with the large bench being used the momentum wasn't lost as every single guy who wore the Purple and White last night put up their hands and played with unbelievable heart and pride. Final score 41-8 to The Cobras

That's the first of 3 steps gone, now for the Semi Finals vs. Wild Boys which is in two weeks time.

A big congratulations to the first ever double winner of the Cobragator Man-of-the-match award which went to our captain who led from the front and was unbelievable physical in every aspect of play, a true inspiration.

What a game followed by an even better fines, here we go Cobras...

Eat, pray, ruck... The Bakkies Botha story.

As one of most senior and accomplished Cobras men; Dugald 'The Weatherman', is busy making controversial waves in Oxford academic circles, he has somehow managed to take time off from all the 'studying and sex' (his words), to review Bakkies Botha's new book; Eat, Pray, Ruck, which is set for release after the World Cup. As you mentally and physically gear up for tonight's massive game outing against Ubumbo, enjoy this enlightening sneak peak at what I predict to be this years bestseller (you should probably pre-order it from Kalahari now as Exclusives will be sold out come October. Dont say i didnt warn you.).

‘Eat, pray, ruck’ provides unique insight into the world of one of professional rugby’s most controversial and misunderstood players. This autobiography, co- authored by close friend and teammate Guthro Steenkamp, sheds light on the humbling tale that is the life of John Philip “Bakkies” Botha. Botha opens up time and again over the hardships of growing up in the coal mining town of Newcastle in Kwa- Zulu Natal. His parents, Sally and Ian Botha, did their best to bring him up ‘proper’ (as Bakkies says) but still he struggled to stay out of trouble. Having been born 4’5” and 35kg, and then shooting up to 6’3” by the age of nine, Bakkies would always be labelled an aggressor and a trouble maker by parents and authorities. A label he still wears today. In Eat, pray, ruck, Bakkies digs into his past to identify the root of his pain and anger. For four relentless Chapters Guthro and Bakkies take us through Botha’s painful and troubled youth. The authors make no apologies for their style, which is not dissimilar to a schizophrenic attempting to write a diary.
Finally, in Chapter 5 we discover the truth behind Botha’s aggressive nature. In what can only be described as truly profound self- reflection, Bakkies Botha explains that the fundamental reason for his extreme aggression is the fact that despite his strong Afrikaans heritage he would, having been born in Kwa- Zulu Natal, be expected to play for the Sharks when he matured into the professional rugby player that everyone knew he would become. Stylistically the book struggles for flow, but true emotion shown in these types of realisations are hard to come by in the world of sport. Now, and only now, is the rugby world coming to grips with this shocking revelation. Knowing what we know now- that Bakkies suffered terribly from inselachophobia (fear of becoming a shark), I am sure that the rugby world can once and for all forgive him for all his wrong doings on the pitch. No man should have to go through life knowing that they are expected to play for the Sharks one day. Like paedophilia, human trafficking and children in poverty, this is one of the worst burdens for a child to bear.
Springbok teammate and Provincial opponent Gio Aplon had this to say having read Bakkies’ book:
“When Bakkies head butted me that day at Newlands, as he has done many times before, I wanted him banned from rugby for life. I hated him. But now, now you tell me how he grew up angry and why he has all this aggression- I realise that it is fair. Bakkies, I am sorry you had to go through that. Had I grown up knowing what you knew I think I would have ended up a gangster. And I thought I had it rough in the flats.”
His fear of becoming a shark ran so deep that even when offered a R2 million bribe to join the Sharks in 2006, he flatly refused the offer.
From Chapter 5 onwards we learn how Bakkies turned his fortunes around. When he finally realised that he did not necessarily have to play for the Sharks his life changed forever. This news was like a message from God and so with his move to the Bulls Bakkies also became deeply religious. Finding freedom helped him to find religion. The expression; ‘he prays before he slays’, is born from Bakkies’ pre- game ritual of praying to God and thanking him for allowing him to change his path, a path that previously led to King’s Park in Durban. Despite his newly found spirituality, Bakkies still remained incredibly aggressive and dangerous on the field. It seemed he welcomed his newly acquired nickname; ‘the enforcer.’ However, what most people don’t realise is that when he prays he thanks God for allowing him the choice of not having to go to the Sharks, thus enabling all those old feelings of pain and anger to resurface. When he goes out onto the pitch these emotions can sometimes push him over that fine line between positive aggression and utter chaos. The controversial, ‘Justice 4’, campaign in the 2009 British Lion tour to South Africa was a statement from the Springboks to highlight Bakkies’ innocence, trying to expose the real reason for Bakkies’ aggression. Having heard about it after the game the ‘victim’, Adam Jones, had this to say:
"Botha shouldn't have been banned for it, nowhere near it. I don't have any complaints.” I grew up in a comfy Welsh mining village- I have no right to judge Bakkies given his terrible past. You see, in the Northern hemisphere we just aren’t exposed to the horrors of the developing world- like possibly playing for the Sharks.”
All things considered ‘Eat, pray, ruck’ is a well- balanced and truly inspirational sporting autobiography that really cuts to the core of what it is to be a misunderstood sportsman in the limelight. The timing for Botha couldn’t be any better with one sporting journalist claiming that:
“Bakkies Botha contributes to the sport of rugby in much the same way as the Old Testament contributes to the Christian faith- with a violent passion that was only really acceptable two hundred years ago."
Quite possibly the most accurate description of Botha’s character by any sports journalist in South Africa to date. Nonetheless ‘Eat, pray, ruck’ makes no excuses and helps to cement the reader’s view of Bakkies Botha as one of the greatest Springboks of all time.

Here we are on the brink of another Cobras’ Wednesday night, with another massive rugby game to be played, and another stupendous fines session to be held but before we get ahead of ourselves I believe it’s necessary to realise why this match on Wednesday vs. the Spanners is so important. I find myself sitting at the computer, choosing to write this instead of my sociology course essay that’s due tomorrow, hey you can repeat a course or two but we only got one shot at winning for this year. So lets have a look see at some of the stats: We have played the Spanners all of 3 times and emerged the victors in all three games, with a points difference of positive 33, with the last match being played last year when we won 10-0. Despite this somewhat one sided ‘rivalry’ between us and the Spanners, this game is even more significant as it will be the 50th time that the Cobras run out onto that ‘Green Mile’. Friday night at Tiger I managed to get hold of Graeme ‘the uncle’ Steen as well as Stefan Terblanche, as I pulled them off the dancefloor where they were starting to make their move towards 2 young possibly school girls, I managed to ask them what this big event would mean to them. Stefan, filled with emotion could not bare the though of not being able to run on for this monumental event, faltered briefly before tapping me on the shoulder with a “Do me proud out there Dino”, he then proceeded to grab this unsuspecting girl by the hand and yank into the bathroom, a true master of the art at work – how lucky I was to witness it. On the other hand I was then left with the uncle, who then explained to me how the Cobras had changed is life the last 20 years he’s been playing in the purple and no matter how many tall chicks he cooks dinner on a Wednesday night; the Cobras will remain at the center of his heart. Yes I shed a silent tear in awe of the man.

Anyway... Flashback - 49 games ago, Tom Brukman lead a young and talented side out onto the field for the first time (I was 13 at the time, I know fuuck some of these dudes are old haha). The crowd watched in anticipation as a somewhat unknown Cobras outfit took the field and with a dazzling display of running rugby, running in tries from all angles, the Purple Cobras had arrived onto the UCT internal league scene, the match ended 33-0. Ok exit flashback, back to this week - The Spanners, yes that’s their real name, stupid isn’t it? They have played pretty well this year and they’ll come at us hard as they try to steal that top spot in our group away. So we are going to need a massive performance to annihilate these dudes and crush their dreams at the throat.

I struck gold in the fact I managed to land an interview with Cobras stalwart and veteran flyhalf, Warren Butler himself, I caught him in the middle of his mid afternoon walk in the park with his pre-fiencee, Julz, and managed to persuade her to give me 10 minutes of their precious time. I also attempted to get Ian Armstrong some questions but due to the fact that he hasn’t been at one touch session or captain’s practice this year, I was unable to contact him. Back to the real deal, here it went:

Dino: Can you share with us your pregame ritual and how you get yourself amped to do what you do for what is now your 6th season in the purple and white?

Warren: I have a fairly basic pre-game ritual, which normally starts on a Tuesday night with lots of tossing and turning in bed as I quietly humm myself to sleep to the tune of Kyle, Kyle Rennie. Wednesday's are tough days for me, normally starts with a message onto the Cobras BBM group describing my excitement. I don't make many classes on Wednesday's as I feel it distracts me from the task at hand. I can't sit still for more than 5 minutes, over the years it would have been a walk down to Cavendish from the White House, kicking a ball and talking about the game at Bugs place and these days it normally starts by fetching you from your place, heading to the Cottage to have a game of Tiger Woods, one cup of Coffee (3 sugars on match day) one glass of water, a pass of a ball, past the bottle store to pick up a case and finally onto Cecil where I can't hide a big smile as I see the excitement of The Cobras as they gather for a-nother Co-bras vic-tory!

Dino: It was been an aweome season so far, what has been your best cobras rugby moment so far? and even more, what has been your best cobras 'everything else' moment off the field?

Warren: It has been a great season so far and the new faces in the family really has rejuvinated our vibe and brought a whole new dimension to The Cobras. It's hard to single out a specific on field moment as I feel every game and minute I get on the field is a special occasion in itself, it's such a privilidge to be able to be a part of something like this, and the fact is not many people have or will ever experience something remotely close to this. As for results, the white wash over a tough Wild Boys side was a highlight, also the maturity and composure shown while pushing aside Claredon was also pretty special, although I feel there are far bigger highlights to come! Off the field, has to be the moment when the tents were set up and all the guys gathered around in a cirlce on James Corder's farm in Elgin for the tour welcome, to look around and see 30 of my mates all amped and raring to go really did send shivers down my spine.

Dino: This year we have blooded alot of new faces into the purple and white, if you had to give them advice as young cobras for the next 4-7 years, what words of wisdom would you give them?

Warren: Firstly just to enjoy every single moment of The Cobras, whether it's on the field, standing in the rain as a reserve, sitting in the changeroom drinking a beer...grab every little piece of Cobras you can and hold on tight to it. Also to focus on the finer things, whether it's offering to pour beers, taking water bottles onto the field, running that extra 20 metres to make that final tackle whatever it is, if all the smaller things are done 110%, then everything else will be taken care of. No Regrets!

Dino: With the 'business end' of the competition coming up, how key will our experienced campaigners be in the road to that Illustrous trophey?

Warren: We all know the saying 'You can't buy experience' which is only partly true in our case, as the amount of talent, belief and ability amoungst the younger guys in the side most certainly keeps the older guys on their toes. I feel it won't be the influence of the more experienced guys but rather a combination of the two that will be far more beneficial to the greater cause.

Dino: And finally, tommorrow night, Cobras FTW?

Warren: You bet your fucking life on it!

The Cobras went on to win their 5th consecutive game of the 2011 season with a 29-3 domination over the Cats...although the conditions weren't great The Cobras managed to put together a bonus point performance and with this move top of their pool with one more pool game to play vs. Spanners on Wed 17th of August.

Although the continuity of this league is extremely frustrating with about a game being played every third week, we are in the process of organising two friendlies before our next game, the first one in the pipeline is against the Babrows, who are the UCT u20A2's. More on this game to follow...

The topic of the week it seems, yes, it does seem that there has been a lot of the banter on the side of the field, on the bbm group and in the changing room about the future of our beloved dynasty. Since 2006, ‘the seniors’ of our current team have steered us in the right direction, creating the image of the Cobras that draws so many people to love it, and lets not forget that emphatic victory in the final over the Nadeos in 2008, one that will forever be marked in Cobras history. So here we are in 2011, launching another campaign that will hopefully see us taking the trophy away from the Nadoes, and we could not have asked for a better start. With a perfect record so far and good performances in all the games we are looking to build on this positive start all the way through the tournament.

As I’m sure most of you have already heard, this past Wednesday night fines was truly special, not only because 15 guys finished 12 cases of beer, but it gave Warren Handley and I the privilege to be fines masters together. As two of the youngest members in the squad, we were both excited and nervous at the task ahead of us, as this was one of the most important rituals that make up the Cobras team. As I closed that door and looked around at the other 13 faces looking to us to start, I could not help but break out into a smile, not because of poen’s facial hair or that we’d tricked Mike Nel into staying when he was about to leave, but because I knew that there was no other place on earth that I’d rather be. It was the moment when we were all standing around my phone, waiting to send Warren Butler a voice message something like – oooooohhhh Wazz is fucking magic… - when I stopped to look around. Any person that didn’t know the Cobras walking into that changing room would have been amazed at how peculiar this group of individuals looked. 15 guys, ranging ages from 19 to 26 (I think) all huddled around a cell phone screaming their lungs out with facial expressions of pure love for what they were doing (plus callan and Poen weren’t wearing their shirts again and Army was chundering in the dustbin). But my real point is - that night there was no difference between a 19 year old and a 25 year old, no difference between guys who’d been in the team since the beginning or someone who was playing his 2nd match. It was just 15 friends - singing songs, having a good time and drinking a shitload of beer.

Now don’t get me wrong, Wednesday is still fresh off mind so I’m using it as an example but cases like Stefan’s birthday, anytime at the cottage, tin roof nights when people believing that Warren was my brother and Steen my uncle, shouting matches outside my house with Bug and Kyle or even the odd trip to Anton Taylor’s flat/lift are also perfect examples of how the Cobras has built memories and great times this year already. Is this not exactly what we are trying to achieve in our team? A bond between the older generation and the younger generation that is so strong that you’d think that we were all in the same grade together at school? That is exactly what we have achieved, and it is incredible to experience.

So yes, some of us may be getting older and starting to settle down - Steen seems to be settling down more than most – “I’m going to the chapel…” – sorry sidetracked, but seriously, the strength of the Cobras lies in our experienced players, in their ability to lead but as well teach us youngsters the ropes. The fact that there are no boundaries of age in the team has helped mould the Cobras to what we are today and what we will be in the future. As the weather man said, change is good and we should embrace it, but we must always remember who laid down the foundations in which this franchise has been built upon. Most importantly, together, we can win the whole thing this year. With the older guys leading from the front, and the younger guys filling in with them, who can stop us?

Your first memory of The Cobras?

My first memory of the Cobras was the summer matches, before the season started in 2010, oaks having to play four matches in one day, but they havent done any fitness or practices since the year before... oaks were chowing bears even with the rolling subs! unfortunately their wasn't a sub for the ref!

Your first game?

It was the first match in 2010, dont remember the exact date, all i remember it ended with me being sloshed in the change room, hitting the captains boot, and singing them cobras songs!

Preferred position on the field?

Either wing or outside center, as one can hit angles with great amounts of pace in those positions, maybe even getting 3 G's on the angle!

Off the field?

Riding the bull, i always try to see how long i can hold on for ;) hahaha

Where is the best spot to bird watch on campus?

Outside the girls bathroom, becuase as they walk in, u can follow them in for some private time, or at the bottom of the jammy steps, some birds have a beautiful smile, whilst others look like they caught a furry cat.

Teams kick off the second round with a bang.

With the Exams looming on students and the long varsity break coming up soon, teams took the final week of rugby to kick off the second round of the Steinhoff UCT Internal league.

There where no surprises on the evening as all the favourites took their chance s to go into the break with a win under their belts. Steinhoff Wild Boys had a hard encounter against the big boys of the Steinhoff Ubumbo team but still pulled off the win. The last few minutes saw them defending their four point lead as Steinhoff Ubumbo kept running at them. The game was their to win for both teams but Wild Boys pulled it off, Ubumbo however gets a bonus point for there efforts.

Steinhoff Cobras cruised home with a 19 – 3 victory over Steinhoff Clarendon. Steinhoff Claredon put up some resistance but the cobras (the experienced campaigners they are) soon dominated and with that took a comfortable win.

The surprise package however came in the form of the Steinhoff Spanners that easily beat the Steinhoff Catz team from CPUT by four tries. They now top the Log in Group 2 of the A-League. Spanners are next up against Clarendon when the league commence.

The Steinhoff turtles and Steinhoff Kopano also had some good fortune on their side as they made sure of big victory margins on their last week of rugby. Turtle’s and Kopano now top their respective groups in the B-League.

Another one bites the dust....

Last night saw another solid performance from the purple and white as the Cobras held out for a 19-3 win over a very decent and physical Clarendon side. The Cobras came out firing and opened their account fairly early with a 7 pointer. From then on it was game time, as the young Clarendon side threw absolutely everything at the calm and composed Cobras. The Cobras defensive effort was something out of this world as Clarendon were relentless in their attack and finally ran out of ideas and direction as the animal like tackling from The Cobras proved too much for the youngsters to crack. After two early injuries to star centre Nico Loizides and big lock Cameron Doyle, the replacements fitted straight in and did what what was required.

It was a commanding performance which saw the ref not actually knowing what a ruck was or how to monitor the break down, regardless of this the discipline from The Cobras was spot on with the heart of The Cobras being the deciding factor at the end of the evening. Final score 19-3 to The Cobras.

Big congratulations to the Cobragator Man of the Match Mike Nel for his two try effort and general open play cutting the line from fullback at will.

The post match celebrations were in true style as a mere 15 guys finished 10 cases of beer, which is something special. The vibe is as good as ever in The Cobras camp, as we now take the long winter break to regroup in July for the real business end of the league.

Touch will continue EVERY SUNDAY 4PM, this is a good chance to take a study break get some fresh air and have a run so please make a continual effort to get down.

The two sides have only met once before in the Internal League, dating back to 2009 when The Cobras won the fixture 31 - 13.

Hola AMIGOS!
You see what I did there? I said 'hello friends' in Mexican, or more accurately - spanish. You see they speak spanish in Mexico, but they don't speak Mexican in Spain. Rather confusing if you ask me. Linguistics aside I 'd like to formally welcome myself back onto the Cobras website after a long break from the writing game. You see I have been focusing on much more serious matters that have deadlines and ramifications, but are no more important than any article I've written or will write on the Cobras website (which, by the way, is looking very up to date and modern. Personally I preferred the purple scales that covered the background but such is life- things change). And that's really what I wanted to address today in my little weather report come philosophical sojourn into the recesses of my mind. Change. What is change and who does it effect (affect)? (Still not sure on the use of those two words. I think I missed that one day in english class where they explained it. Funny that. Also the word 'several'- up until very recently I believed that two signify seven so when reading an ecos textbook and it said something like 'there are several factors that define EVERYTHING you need to know' and there were only five I'd start freaking out. Where are the other two? Fuck. I am going to fail. And on and on and on like that for years of my life and then one day a legendary Cobra's player, Phil the Drill, who must be like an urban legend to you younger folk, explained to me what several meant and it changed my life. I use the word several no less than thirty times in my current thesis.)
Wow that was a big brackets break. 'scuse me. So change. Where did change come from and what does it have to do with this Wednesday night and this very special group of Cobras players. I can hear Kyle Rennie reading this and saying;"I know he's going somewhere with this, but.. I'm.. just.. not.. sure.. where."Well Kyle it will al become clear in a moment. You see when I joined the Cobras, at its inception (thangyaverymuch) in 2006 on Jammie stairs with Tom Brukman, Nick FW and the rest of that motley crew it was the beginning of a new change in my rugby 'career' and certainly a new change in my life. The Cobras has changed my life. The Cobras will change your life. Don't fight it. Just let it take you for a long, and often frightening ride. Getting back on track though I feel that I've ridden the beast for a few years and now my heyday in the Cobras is slightly behind me. I can hear Warren Butler screaming; 'What the fuck are you talking about?! We young! We're living!"Firstly, calm the fuck down Warren and secondly I am not walking away I am saying it's time for a change. Change. It's all about change. It was a huge change when Warren Butler graciously handed over the arm band to our current general Callan Artus, it was a huge change when Graeme Steen siad he was hanging up his boots to pursue a life of accounting and collecting birds nests. While it may be sad at times, change is good. We. Need. Change. And I think this season has come to embody that.
I was lucky enough to play two games at the beginning of this season and enjoy, as per the usual, two incredible fines sessions. What I enjoyed most about those evenings out on the mile and in the warm, fuzzy changing rooms was that there were so many new faces in there that were clearly amped about staying there. It really made me reflect on some of those earliest fines sessions and how we started with the traditional 'here's to x, he's so blue...' and 'hoola, hoolala..' (great traditional songs) and slowly morphed into the fucking full on broadway production that the Cobra's change room is today. I mean jeez- a song for every player (or at least we aspire to) and ten cases of beer. That's pretty much unheard of anywhere else in the world, apart from perhaps our neighbours the Nadoes. But even they fell behind when we started to import foreign talent to grace us with songs like 'je piee... where are the rest'. How was that lunatic? You inspired him to become an animal in there. You brought out the best in that Belgian and so he brought out the best in us. What a joke that evening was! But where was I? Ahh yes... CHANGE! OBAMA! Sorry. So look at what you have now- enjoy it because when you blink your eyes you're already five years down the line looking back at trophies and victories, but most importantly friends and gooooood times (winning makes things good so don't get fucking happy clappy - as long as you're having fun- on me now.) But it is the cheesy shit that really makes it.
So... embrace the change. Force the change. Be the change. All that jazz. You know what I am getting at here. There are few things in the world that will give you as much joy in the world as the Cobras will- Evan Strauss might say being fawned over by groupies is pretty close but I think even he would agree that it just doesn't quite compare. Think how you can add to the Cobras and then do it. Maybe a cheeky e-mail of your exploits over the weekend, maybe a little song for one of your mates (doesn't have to come from Warren), maybe an extra case of beer one week to broaden those smiles and maybe, just maybe one more minute of the hardest rugby you've ever played when your legs are screaming and your chest is heaving.
So with that out of the way I now turn to the traditional Wednesday Night Weather Forecast. Unfortunately I am unable to use some of my tried and tested weather forecasting skills like sniffing the air for rain or the good old index- finger- in- the- mouth- and- in- the- air move to judge the wind being that I am many many miles away from home. I waaaaannnnna go home.... Shoh don't get me started. So before I get emotional let's get tot hat little weather report followed by an interview with a fine Cobras gentleman

There you have it. Looking rather chilly if I do say so myself gentlemen. No rain predicted so those more fleet footed of us could certainly get away with using the old moulded stud boots. Poen and Shane I'd suggest sticking to the old tried and tested long metal studs for the scrums. Maybe even look for some of those old ankle high lock boots that Jamie Manuel is so keen on!

Bug: Junks! What a pleasure. How you?

Junks: Ag Bug I am good hey. How are you?

Bug: Junks I couldn't be better, thank you for asking. It's refreshing to have someone like you on my show- someone with manners, a bit of class.

J: Well Bug I mean come on! What did you expect hey?

B: To be honest Junks I wasn't expecting much. I mean I ma talking with the same Duncan Johnson who ran through a field with none other than Black Gowar chasing sheep only to find a dead lamb and tie it to the roof of your car?

J: Ya but Bug... come on! You would have done the same thing.

B: You're wrong there Junks. I would have drawn the line at the chasing sheep. Dead lambs are not my thing unless slow cooked and handed to me falling off the bone. But nonetheless you still have a strong reputation for being an upstanding Cobra. I believe you were responsible for stopping the theft of some Cobra's bags last year. A stunning display of speed, agility and keeping your wits abut you as I recall. Care to tell us a bit more about that?

j: Ya it all happened quite quickly, but from what I remember I just saw some dodgy okes snooping around and then slinking off and so I gave chase. I have an eye for these things you see.

B: Like you identify with criminals?

J: No no no... More like I can see when things aren't quite right. Doos Bug.

B: Soooo you can see the future?

J: Of course not Bug. If I could see the future I would have domed up!

B: Ahhhh the old elephant in the room. Junks I wasn't going to bring it up for fear of looking like a dick but now it's out there. So how are things with the little 'un?

The Steinhoff Nadoes blow away Ikhaya last night while Steinhoff Cobra played a conservative match holding back for round two.

Steinhoff Nadoes dominated from start to finish on a windy and cold evening on the mile as they stamped there authority, stating why they are 2010 Champs. Last week we saw Steinhoff Panther putting 62 points past Steinhoff Ikhaya, guess the Nadoes proved they could go one better and put 69 point past the same opponents. They could do nothing wrong on the evening as they score tries at will and it looked like a training match as every set piece basically ended in a try. Does Steinhoff Nadoes look like contending for the league this year? Well that I leave to you to decide.

Steinhoff Cobras and Steinhoff Wild Boys already qualifying for top honours had only pride to play for and who will be topping their group. It was obvious from the Cobras game plan that they where going to dominate up front and make sure Wild Boys don’t score any points. The Steinhoff Cobras where all over the Wild Boys, not really giving them room to work their moves. Steinhoff Cobras had to work for their tries but there wasn’t much resistance from their opponents.

Steinhoff Spanners shocked Ubumbo with 13 – 10 win, both teams scoring once. Steinhoff Ubumbo however made to many mistakes on the evening handing the Spanners two penalties that sealed the win for them. Spanners seem to be improving as this league continues. At the end both teams qualified for the next round with Spanners topping their group.

Steinhoff Turtles and Steinhoff Kopano also had good wins, but for both teams it was too little too late.

So after a good few weeks off from the Rugby field The Cobras are chomping at the bit to get back out on the Green Mile for the last group fixtures of the first round of the competition. This week see's the Cobras face up to the Wild Boys, a team formally started by an older generation of Bishops guys but now has changed many a hand resulting in it being a bit of a sacs/wynberg old boys vibe.

The two teams have met 3 times before this Wednesday's encounter, with all three games going in favour of The Cobras.

There we have it, what a game it looks set to be. After a good captains run this evening The Cobras will be re-grouping tomorrow evening at Hudsons - The Burger Joint for their usual Tuesday night team dinner in preparation for the big day.

The Cobras starting XV see's a couple of changes from the last fixture. With the recent ban on all Post-Matrics playing rugby we have acquired the services of young Bishops lock Cameron Doyle who comes straight into the starting line-up on debut, as a big physical player he will be looking to add some aggression up front. Another run-on debut comes in the form of powerhouse hooker Khotso Mika, who made his debut a couple of weeks ago, but gets his first start this week. The veteran Kyle Rennie takes a break from the starting team this week and takes up an unfamiliar position on the bench. He spent more time down on one knee stretching his old muscles at touch on Sunday than actually running, it must be the colder weather settling into not only Cape Town but his old creaky bones too. We welcome the return of Badr up front and the old campaigner, who represented the Wild Boys a few years back, Nicholas 'fridge' Bailey.

The Cobras have a few weeks off until their next Internal League fixture of 2011 vs. Wild Boys.

We go into the Easter break with two out of two so far having scored 67 points in the first two fixtures with 20 against, which came in the second fixture against the Shebeen Boys. The next fixture sees a big game against the other unbeaten team in our pool. This game will decide who finished top of the pool which allows for a better place in the next round.

The fixture vs. Wild Boys is on Wednesday the 11th of May, pencil it in it's going to be a big one.

Definitely not one of those accounting okes! Sorry Graeme don’t want to be bored to death. This was a toughie but I reckon I’d go for Poeni. Yes he might not be the smartest cat on the block and probably couldn’t hunt or anything but chances are though that he is carrying some sort of “stimulant” and he is always on about how much fun he has so i guess at least I’d die a happy man. But seriously if worse comes to worse i could take him man for man! A Poeni steak sandwich can go a loooong way!

The Cobras beat a plucky Shebeen Boys last week Wednesday. After a dominant first half performance The Cobras raced to a 22-3 lead at the break. With a couple new combinations being tried in the second half the Shebeen Boys upped their game and came back strongly to eventually lose to The Cobras 29-20.

The first half saw some absolutely champagne rugby as the forwards dominated from the outset and the backs ran through at will, a lot of confidence taken from that performance.

The Cobras now have a lengthy break until the next fixture, more details to come soon...

We managed to catch up with Dino this morning in the middle of his busy daily schedule while he was sitting on the Jammie Steps observing the sights...this is what he had to say:

You first memory of The Cobras?
First memory of the Cobras would have to be my first game for the Cobras. It was cold, windy evening on the green mile and it was the quarter finals in 2009. I was nervous as I was only in grade 11 and much smaller than evryone else (despite nico). I don't remember that much but I do remember my first lineout when stand-in captain, Graeme Steen, looked me dead in the eye and said, "Dino, you see that guy... (he then proceeded to point at an oppososion player)... I want you to fucking kill him, fucking kill him Dino!". Truely inspiring.

When did you get your first Cap for the purple and white?
2009, when i was in grade 11.
Preferred position on the field?
My favourite position is 8th man, nothing better than a pick and go off a scrum thats dominating, most great players around the world play at 8 aswell. Although I do enjoy playing on the flank, blindside defense is always fun.

I do enjoy most of the songs, last week in the changing room was incredibly festive but the few that stand out have got to be the Weather man's, Cobi's and Cian's, they all get the whole team going, but the best song for me would have to be Anton's one that he delievered in fine fashion last week. Always a fan favourite.

Where is the best spot to bird watch on campus?

Interesting question, for those willing to go the distance then I'd recommend any Film and Media class, there are loads of dumb but pretty girls that do that course. Otherwise Jammie steps is also a good call.

In a relationship, 7 months and its been good so far. Not yet at the 'considering marriage stage' that Warren and Julz are at ha ha.

There are a lot of choices in this catergory, but as a young memeber, I'd have to go with Kyle Rennie. As a fellow 8, Kyle has been doing it for years, showing experience and great skill at the position. His relaxed manner of living mixed with intensity on the field has really helped me build confidence on the field and feel welcome in the team.

Which Cobra would you want with you if you were stuck on a deserted island and why?

Warren Bulter, despite his leadership skills and some sense of resourcefulness, at least I'm certain he'll die of old age before me.

Cobras FTW?

Definitely, if we play like we did last week we should cruise home to another victory. I doubt it will be as easy as last week, but if our forwards set that physical platform from last week and our back run like they did, we should be 2-0 going into the 2 week break.

What's your view of the vibe in the Cobras?

Well, I think the answer to this question is already known if you were in Stones last week, but here is is again. Last week just proved to me why I love playing in this team, the entire build-up and all. Dinner at Hudsons, pre-game chat, bbm group jokes, the actual match and the fines with the night afterwards was all just one amazing experience, and I can't wait for tomoorow and the rest of the season.

This Wednesday The Cobras play their second fixture against a solid team in the form of the Shebeen Boys. The Shebeen Boys went down narrowly to the Wild Boys in their opening encounter and are sure going to come out firing looking to turn around last weeks performance into a victory.

The Cobras sealed a comfortable 38-0 win in their opening encounter a week ago, and will be looking for 2 out of 2 come Wednesday night. Another week, another exciting fixture.

It's the big Varsity Cup final tomorrow when UCT take on Tukkies in Pretoria. The UCT First team has a strong presence of Cobras in it for the big occasion.

The Cobras who are running out in the blue and white hoops tomorrow evening come in the form of captain Nick Fenton-Wells, semi final man of the match Pete Haw, Zandy Macdonald and Mike Morris. Other Cobras who have represented UCT in the varsity cup are Adrian Kritzinger, Dayne Jans who are both unfortunately out of action due to injury, and then centre Olly Braithwaite.

We wish the whole squad the best of luck for this occasion, hope you guys bring the cup home!

The Cobras came out firing against a young Marquard side on Wednesday evening with a convincing 38-0 win. The forwards laid the perfect foundation for the backs to run some supreme angles while the Marquard defence stood clueless.

A great performance on the night from star centre Nico Loizides which was well supported by wing and man of the match Rayaan Adams.

Final score 38-0 to The Cobras.

Cobras Cricket tour to Stellenbosch...

The Cobras embarked on a recent weekend 'Cricket Tour' of Stellenbosch to compete in the annual Graham Gooch Cricket Cup, which was held at Van Der Styl CC. After departing on the Friday afternoon the men from the Cape went straight to the nearest wine farm in the Boland region to kick off proceedings.

The team consisted of Kyle, Matt, Army, Stefan, Graeme, Nico, Warren with the management being made up of Dugald and Trent, and our own official umpire in the form of Brendan Raubenheimer.

What a great weekend it was although The Cobras lost narrowly in the semi's for the second year in a row to The Presidents. To our celebration the Presidents lost in the final therefor giving up their 2 year winning streak, having been the only team in the competition until this year to have won it, thank goodness.

Fellow Cobras...

I joined this team in 2008 after having spent 2/3 years playing for other franchises in the UCT Internal League. I had no idea that I had just begun a journey with a group of okes that would involve unforgetable moments, mental motivation and uncontrolled madness both on and off the field.

Wednesday mornings I'd wake up thinking about a victory that evening on the Green Mile, nervous but excited. During the day I would visualize Raubs smashing over frightened opposition, Army bringing down giants, Warren B crusing through half-gaps, Kyle Rennie hitting okes back over the advantage line, Smorey carving up backlines, and woogy headbutting nadoes boneheads. Thinking about playing with the Cobras was all I could do.

It is the culture of this team that makes us a hard team to beat. Never did I get the feeling that a cobra wasn't putting every ounce of his purple heart into his performance. When it comes to motivation, what better way to find it than to look into your team mates eyes in the huddle before kick off and know that every oke is itching to do his part. Putting body on the line is never in question.

When you run out against the Nadoes today, be calm. You already know you are champions. I have played with most of you, I have seen the talent, the guts and the fucking glory. Give the cobras name everything you have on that field, because it will give back to you like you cannot imagine. Hit them hard boys, dazzle that crowd, and take home that cup, whatever it takes.

Keeeeeeennnnnnnnnnaaaaaaaaaakkkkkkkkkkkkoooooooooo! Good day Gents. And what a goooooood day it is. I can't tell you how I've been feeling for the last 48 hours. Waking up in cold sweats, nervous when the phone rings and scared of sunshine. I want this. I need this. We need this. It's the day of the final and my palms are sweaty. Five years from the inception of the Cobras on jammie steps we're in our second final with a team that seems (at least on paper) stronger than any we've fielded in the past.

Let's just take a moment here to rein in our emotions and reflect on past performances. Good and bad. Remember that shit nil nil draw up on a devilish evening on the Green Mile. Think back to that Herculean defense against a powerful Ubumbo side. Think back to those debuts, that sensational chip kick from Graeme Steen, that huge hit and those glaring mistakes. Think about them, learn from them and then forget them. Because tonight we wipe the slate clean. We build on positives and learn from the negatives. It will be a magnitude of game that most of us have never experienced. That none of us have played. For many it will be the pinnacle of our rugby carriers. It's final time baby! Let's take it home.

I'm giving my final weather report for the Cobras. So it would seem. What a journey it's been. What amazing blokes you all are. I often wonder if I would come across and befriend many of you in the CRFC. Imagine life without 'I want some Poeni, Poeni for me!'. Try to comprehend living a week where you don't get to hear- 'Sean, Sean, wherever you may be...!'. How different life is after Luc Du Plessis. The truth of the matter is we have, through one way or another, stumbled onto something so special, so unique that it is difficult to grasp who we'd be without the Purple Cobras. We wouldn't be half the men we are today. Swali Philanderer? Where do you think that name came from? I love going out at night with a non- cobra friend and run into one of the Cobras boys.

It's a bond shared amongst a bunch of dudes that not many guys get to share. It's not gay. It's just the truth. Wherever you may go, and for however long you will always be a Cobra. That means a free couch and many free beers all around the world.

What I'm trying to say is this: Tonight we have the chance to put the cherry on the cake. We have it all. We've worked hard. So lets just go that little bit further. Another sixty minutes.

It’s unbelievably difficult to fathom the fact that I won’t be joining you in arms tonight on this momentous occasion.

As we speak I am overcome with an overwhelming emotion whilst engrossed in my own misfortunes (fuck flights are expensive) I wish things could be different, donning that no 8. Shirt, one last time, on a night like this.

But yet still in my despair there's an ominous cloud that washes over me, as I'm strangely comforted by the reverberations of immense Cobra's figures, it soothes my pain of missing out (FOMO) when I remember the quality of both the person and player alike – those men who form of part of the Cobras brotherhood and to-day for he who sheds his blood with you, shall be your brother.

having been lucky enough to play for many different teams and clubs around the world, no other team can even compete with the vibe and sense of brotherhood that the cobras offer. when you play for the cobras you know that everyone is going to look after each other on and off the field, something that not many teams offer. On top of that is what critics call the best fines meeting in world rugby, which puts together a potent mixture! They say that home is where the heart is, and i have no doubt that everyone who has had the privilege of playing in purple will keep and cherish this team for the rest of their lives.

Throughout my year of traveling, undoubtedly the one thing I miss most about home is the Purple Cobras. There is just nothing else quite like it.

The first time I arrived on UCT B field at 6.30pm on a Wednesday evening with the wind howling down the Green Mile, I played a bit of touch with the okes to warm up, Stephen (Starven Steven) led the stretching, and I took to the field, full of nerves and hope. On that day I became part of something truly special. I became part of the Cobras. The team synonymous with flashy but fucking hard rugby. And after a night of merrymaking and chanting in the change room, the bond was sealed.

At the time I knew I was part of something great. But only now, being away from it, do I fully realize how extraordinary the vibe is. Now I don’t mean to get soppy and nostalgic, but these really are the days of your life. I’ve finished studying, I’m overseas and am now starting my career, I don’t know if I’ll ever get the opportunity to play for the Cobras again. But looking back on the memories I made and shared with The Cobras on the Green Mile, in change rooms, at the Bishops fields on a Sunday, at Wadda, Bang Bang and Forreys, those really were the best times of my varsity life. I would give anything to get them back, to be there on Thursday.

Lets get that fucking trophy engraved with C.O.B.R.A.S.

See much of a difference? Na, didn't think so me neither!

My time as the resident interviewer this season has taken me too many interesting places. Front passenger seat of Poefie’s old mans Aston, the AG head offices, the dungeons at the UCT library (its a real place), a Greek church (whatever they’re called) but the most far out and broadening of which (in my mind at least) was visiting our engineer friend, Fridge, in Hout Bay. I donned the safety cloves, face mask and crotch protection items all in the name of health and safety, walked through a chaotic and noisy industrial factory with many folk hitting metal and melting what looked like old wheel burrows only to walk into a pristinely cleaned office to find, Fridge sitting in front of a computer playing spider solitaire. ‘Oh hi’ he said. ‘I’ll be right with you, I’m almost finished’. That’s where a four year engineering degree gets you I guess...

Explain the nick name fridge, if you would?

Well, it all started in std 6 back in 1999... our year at school had an indecent obsession with student head shapes, and derived many nick-names from this obsession. So, back when Bobby Skinstad was still the darling of Newlands, and hadn't yet defected to that pack of rats they call the Sharks, i got a bit of a short back and sides hair resembling old bob's. Unfortunately it made my head look completely square - thus the nick name Fridgehead. (other Head nicknames from my year include bushead, lollipop and lippe)

How many and which internal league teams did you play for before seeing the light and becoming Fridgey the Cobras man?

I don't actually despise Locnville as much as people think, I just don't really understand the fuss about their music, not my style to be honest.

Who do you rate is better Cooper or Carter?

Carter is solid but I'm going to have to go with Cooper, he's a magician and I enjoy the way he plays - especially in the Super 14 this year

As this is your 3rd year with the Cobras what’s it like representing the purple and white?

It's always a great thing to represent and be apart of such amazing vibe, on and off the field

Anyone who understands what Infanta is about can second me when I say that it really is a place just to get away from everything. Okes go there to chill, fish, surf, braai and things like that. But you have to be prepared food and booze-wise because the closest shop is an hour away. You can't explain it, you have to check it out to understand it..

Whilst cruising around the city bowl in the passenger seat of Mr Pretorius Snr’s average Aston Martin, sipping on a latte and gorging on a three cheese muffin from Vida, I managed to whip out the not pad and jot down a few answers from the questions I was firing at my fellow lock partner.

Explain, if you would, the story behind the great name ‘Poefies’?

I really wish the story was alot more spicy but unfortunately it's pretty blan; 1st day of boarding school some oke called me "poefter", I haven't looked back since.

When did you earn your first Cobras cap?

My 1st Cobras cap was back in 2006 under the captaincy of one Tom Brukman, hell what a team!

As a slightly older figure in the side, whats your view on the vibe this year in the camp?

I'm really loving the vibe this year, there's a good core group of players that are passionate and committed to the cause. By looking around in the change room before the game you can see that the okes won't settle for anything less than a win and a trophy at the end of the season.

How do you rate our chances in the up and coming final?

I honestly think we can do it. There are some awesome combinations in the side and the guys look like a formidable unit overall. I had the privilege of reffing a cobras game this year and being the closest "spectator" I could see how unstoppable the boys are when they get going. We just need to keep our heads about us and go through the motions the same way we've done all season.

Who’s you rugby idol, is it really Krynauw Otto?

Funnily enough my rugby idol is not the big KO but I prefer to look up to Tiaan Strauss, honestly, block speaking Afrikaans with an Aussie accent!

Hermanus is the best place in the world, fact. It's the perfect distance from Cape Town, world class golf course, awesome beaches and the fish and chips at Hermanus Fisheries is out of this world.

What’s your handicap? 7

What do you do for a little ‘me’ time?

I try to get out on the golf course as much as possible, but nothing beats a jog up to Rhodes Mem.

What makes up your breakfast on match day?

"Oats-so-easy" and a latte from Vida, sensational combo.

What’s it like being a working man and still studying?

It's tough, but I can't just be a student anymore, so I was really keen to do something else while I study. It takes a good balance that I'm still trying to find.

For the okes put there that don’t know, what is it exactly that you do (work wise)?

I'm help run a scuba diving magazine, basically it's a free, high gloss, A3 size magazine. You get it by subscribing online and it comes out 4 times a year. I do everything I can from selling advertising to writing articles, it's a really cool way to learn everything there is to publishing a magazine. We are in the process of launching a wine magazine using the same, successful, media model we use for the dive mag.

What would you do if you didn’t play rugby?

Refing the game is something that I've taken up this year so I would definitely try and give that a good run and see how far I can get.

Any messages you would like to pass on to the new up and coming youngsters in the Cobras ranks?

It's a great vibe to be apart of, there are so many friends to be met and, barring league rugby, there aren't many sports that you can feel part of a team as much as rugby. The Cobra's brand is a proud one and I would like to see the name being carried around UCT for as long as possible.

IT'S THE BATTLE OF SUPREMACY IN THE STEINHOFF UCT INTERNAL LEAGUE FINAL

It's the Dream Final that everybody has been waiting for; Steinhoff Purple Cobras face off against their archrivals Steinhoff Tornadoes for the bragging rights of becoming 2010 champions.

The Steinhoff UCT Internal League Finals will be played on Thursday, 23 September which will see all 16 teams in actions on the night. The league has been divided into two sections, the Championships Section as well as the Cup Winners' section.

Steinhoff Tornadoes, the 2009 champions, will contest the Championships Section against Steinhoff Cobras after reaching the final with a convincing win over the Magic Lions in the semifinals.

Both teams playing a different brand of rugby - the Steinhoff Cobras are well known for their defensive game and quick counters, whilst the Steinhoff Tornadoes are best known for their attack-orientated approach; all of which makes for an interesting 2010 Final.

Although playing for the Championship trophy, these two teams are also playing for the rights to participate in the Steinhoff Koshuisrugby Championships - which, of course, takes place at the same time as the 2011 Varsity Cup tournament.

How long have you been a part of the Cobras?

Since first year- 2007.

Is it true that you were conceived whilst your old folks were watching the very popular (at the time), industry defining movie series of ‘Emanuel’? And therefore gave the name ‘Emanuel’.

I’ve avoided asking my parents about the time I was conceived- So maybe...

Are u Greek or Jewish?

Greek, but claim Jewish when I want to come right in the upstairs section of Fez… or get into Fez.

Who do you rate is better Ricky January or Bolla Conradie?

Ricky is definitely a better looking terd.

As this is your 4th year with the Cobras what’s it like representing the purple and white?

It’s quite an honour playing outside the likes of Jussy B and Oli. Quite nerve racking as well as I don’t want to let down Oli. But I’m very proud to be a Cobra.

What does your Tuesday evening pre match ritual consist of?

I get to bed early- I know the tomorrow’s a big day. I find it hard to sleep because I’m thinking about tomorrow. I pop a speaker into the ear I’m not sleeping on. Music/playlists/rugby/peace with the inches speech… Hopefully I fall asleep soon, but unlikely- I’m anxious.

Give us some highlights of your Cobras career thus far?

Tour to P.EEEEE. The emergence of photographic evidence of Smorrie and Dugald ripping up that poor bus driver’s son’s clothes after getting kakked out by Dugald sr. Cian yakking on G at our first fines- racist!

Castle Lager, but thinking Castle Lite will be the beer for the summer.

Stuart Commins says he is settling into life at Franklin's Gardens and enjoying his time at the Saints.
8Share The 21-year-old scrum-half arrived during the summer after finishing his studies at the University of Cape Town, and after playing in the pre-season friendlies against Bedford and Dax he got his first taste of Aviva Premiership Rugby 'A' League action in the Round One match at Leicester.
And after having dried off from the deluge that hit Welford Road in the second half he took some time to reflect on his first few weeks at the club.

"Settling in has been easy, to be honest," Commins said. "The guys are great, the team spirit's unbelievable, and on and off the field things are going well. People are very friendly and that's the most important part. I've come here and I'm enjoying my rugby, and whether I'm at Franklin's Gardens or outside it's very special."

The trip to Leicester came 24 hours after Commins had experienced his first East Midlands derby from the stands, and he has already got a taste for the passion for rugby that this region of England has.

"You went to the Premiership game last Sunday and you can see the rivalry that exists between the two teams," he added. "There was a bit of banter going on both on and off the field! But it's great to see. The Saints have passionate supporters and it's always special when they get behind the team."

The Cobras go marching ON ON ON!

The Cobras advanced to the Final of the 2010 Internal League with a commanding performance against a powerful Ubumbo side on Wednesday evening. This will be the Cobras 3rd final in 5 years, also their 3rd against the Nadoes, with the record being 1-1 in Finals.

After a few strong and inspiring words from Nick Koster in the changeroom the jerseys were handed out and The Cobras were ready. The game started at a frenetic pace with both sides giving it their all in the opening exchanges. Ubumbo serged hard in the opening 5 but The Cobras defence was impenetrable with play moving back up field in favour of the Cobras. After a well worked move down the left Cobras flyer VIVA JP Van Huffels made the telling break and offloaded to stalwart Olly Braithwaite who was greeted under the poles by half a dozen teammates sharing the moment with him. It didn't stop there as once again Ubumbo serged but again, and the story of the night, The Cobras defence was too much for the physical Ubumbo players.

The heart and commitment of every Cobra at the point of contact was something special, as Nick Koster said before the game, it's about the little battles on the field that win the games, and the contact situation was most certainly won by The Cobras.

After sucking up a lot of the big pressure from Ubumbo the Cobras played their patient game and with some tactical kicking made their way up into the Ubumbo half with a scrum. The experienced Kyle Rennie broke from 8, offloaded to Graeme Steen only to put Brendan Raubenheimer away to score just right of the upright, 12-0.

Again The Cobras sucked up the pressure, and after some massive defence held out only for Ubumbo to have a shot at goal, 12-3. The game continued with massive hit after hit as both sides weren't giving each other an inch on the field. The Cobras patiently made there way up field which forced a penalty which Warren converted making leaving the score at 15-3 at half time.

The Cobras were fired up and knew they were 30min away from a place in the final. The set pieces were being won, Warren Handley playing a massive role in the lineouts and scrums at hooker in only his second outing for The Cobras. The pack stood up to a far bigger pack than themselves and dominated from the word go. It was a great clinical performance from the Cobras as until the last minute the Cobras were being asked to defend with their lives. The game was won but still the hunger and heart of the men in purple in white paid off as the ref drew the curtain on what was a fantastic effort and great momentum for The Cobras ahead of the all important final which is on the 23rd of September.

Man of the Match went to Captain courageous Callan Artis, the man is unstoppable when it comes to looking for contact, he led from the front putting his body on the line every second of the game.

Another special fines evening happened straight after the game as The Cobras celebrated reaching their 3rd final in 5 years, which already is an achievement to be proud of. One more step to go...it was the type of semi any team would have liked to have overcome going into a final.

First and fore mostly a bloody big congratulations, and high fives all round for making it to the second last stage of the UCT internal league. A feat achieved 5 years in a row since the inception of the PC’s in 2006, and our pristine track record is still in tact! An impressive achievement. I’m proud as a peacock, as should be you.

But now is not the time to gloat. Tomorrow we have our biggest test of the season thus far. Umbumbo are typically a quality and very fiery side, they give it their all and hate to lose. We’ve come up against them many times throughout the last 5 years, and both teams have a great amount of mutual respect (its not a rare occurrence to catch a cobra enjoying a gentle brew with an umbumbo at Tiger (Fez these days??) at 3.57am on a Saturday), however our track record speaks for itself. A track record that boldly tells tales of how we have come out the victor more often than not (ask Waz B for the exact figure). We are always hungrier. We are always harder. We are always better. We always fucking HATE losing more.

So Cobras go out there tomorrow and do what you do best. Give it your all. Go hard. No regrets.

I don’t want anyone sulking off to that changing room, head down, drinking a beer to drown the sorrow of loss, thinking if only I had given that much more. If only I had made that tackle, committed to that ruck, passed the ball, etc. No regrets.

No. I want you going into that changing room hearts full, knowing that win or lose

(Fucking win) you fucking gave it your all, that tonight you put your body on the line. And when that first ice cold gloriously golden lager starts gushing down your gullet, you are content in fact that you gave your absolute everything for your brother standing next to you in purple.

The Championship section had the more competitive matches with Ubumbo beating the Spanners. The Spanners only have themselves to blame for loosing the match. Spanners having the numbers to the right decided to use there pack instead which did not pay off at all. There kicker on the evening also didn’t help them at all missing 3 vital penalties. Cobras had their grudge match against an ever improving ikhaya team. Ikhaya the team that kicked the Cobras out in the Semi’s last year didn’t look like the team of old. Cobras played their patient but flamboyant brand of rugby that we are use to seeing. Cobras were just to good for them winning the match 33 – 06 with Callan Artus, JP van Huffel, Kyle Rennie, D. Johnson and Stuart Black scoring for the Cobras.

Nadoes had an early scare from the Wild Boys as they were held 7 - 7 at half time, then soon showed why they are defending Internal league champions as they put their foot on the gas and rushed to a 21 – 7 lead which was also the final score. Try scorers for the Nadoes are Shafiek Nordien, Theo Von Aspern and Brad VD Westhuizen. The final match between MOB and Smuts was a tight affair as Mob could only manage to win 5 – 3 as Smuts brought the A game on the evening.

The Cobras progressed to the Semi-Finals of the UCT Internal League last night with an impressive 33-6 win over a well drilled Ikhaya side. It was one of the performances of the year as The Cobras rose to the big occasion with a massive performance. In reaching the Semi-Finals The Cobras keep their record of advancing to the Semi-Final for the fifth year in a row.

The Cobras face Ubumbo in a massive Semi-Final next Wednesday...

Goooooooood morning gentle friends. It’s roughly 10am and I’m still wiping the sleep out of my eyes. I’m tired. I’m tired because I couldn’t sleep last night and I couldn’t sleep last night, not because I was tired, but because I was jittery with expectation. It’s Wednesday baby and I’m titillated at the thought of watching the Cobras quarter final match. My nipples are erect and goose bumps cover my inner thighs. There’s no place in the world I’d rather be than in Cape Town and with the Cobras. Many are hyping this game up as a re-match of last year’s appalling semi- final which saw the demise of the Cobras and the crowning of the Nadoes once again. We were sad men. Distraught you might say. But like the late, great Rodney Bernhardt said: “the world doesn’t need another sad man, it needs a fucking hero.”

I believe he wasn’t just talking about life as a security officer, he was speaking in broader terms. He was talking to us. He was sending us a message. Today we kill the duck and put the steaming locomotive that is the Purple Cobras Rugby Team back on the tracks to victory. Let’s end this duck boys. Let’s end it like Lusky might end a blind, wing clipped guinea fowl... with four twelve gauge shot guns at close range. The time has come. We need to put behind us the emotional fair wells to the likes of Luke Du Plessis and focus not on their absence but on doing their names proud. It’s the business end of the season and we’ve got plenty of wheeler dealers to get the job done.

With that said I’ like to produce the weather forecast for today. I’m not particularly proud of the fact that this is done by simply looking out the window. But as you know the Green Mile has its’ very own micro climate so here’s what I’m going to do. I’m going to give you the weather as it stands right now and tell you what to prepare for for this evening. A lot can change you see.

There you have it. Just as I expected. Clear sunny skies for the day with a very light Northerly wind. A high of 15 with a low of 12 tells me that it’s still winter but I bet we were all fairly relieved to wake up to sunshine this morning. That reminds me of a great song.

You guys know that tune? It’s a ‘killing me softly’ type of vibe by the Fugees. Speaking of the Fugees did anyone else happen to notice that Wyclef Jean is running for president in Haiti? I’ serious. The brother has been parading through streets on the top of armoured vehicles waving to his potential people. He is Haitian but grew up in America where he became a famous singer. It was recently written that he has funded many concerts through his charity which is a little messed up. When asked about the prospect of losing the election: "Even if I lose, I do win," he says. "The world will have known that in history there was a young man from Haiti who felt he wanted to do more than music, to engage in Haitian politics and help move the country forward. So in that sense I feel that even if I am to lose, I am to win." Talking about himself in the third person there. Dubious you might say. Anyway.

So back to the weather. A northerly wind is not too disastrous unless it switches. And switch it will. By 8pm tonight I’m predicting a strong SW wind blowing on the Green Mile. That’s not exactly the devil wind but it will certainly push temperatures down and make goal kickers pick up a few more blades of grass to judge the wind. Personally I feel that Warren Butler shouldn’t have too much trouble with his conversions tonight. It’s always much easier when tries are being run in under the poles. Nuff said.

I would like to round off today’s weather report with an interview I did with one of our Cobras players many months ago. It never went to print due to some software glitches I was experiencing at the time. I would also like to add that in the future all interviews done by myself will be done via the brain mining techniques used in the movie ‘Inception’. I’m going to come clean with you guys because you’re all straight shooters and I consider you my friends. I invented that technology. that movie was, in fact, based on my exploits. I know, it’s all a bit much to take in at this point. Don’t bother asking the producers about me. They’ll deny it you see. I costs someone a lot less when they don’t have to pay property rights to the master mind behind. It’s going to take many years of therapy and many more years of binge drinking to get over this little bump. I am here to ask you to hold my hand through this rocky patch. So what I was trying to say was instead of the usual pre-match interview I’ll be doing a little exploring into the minds and imaginations of your fellow Cobra’s and then describing in detail what I find there. I takes a huge amount of courage to delve into the mind of Ian Armstrong. It takes even more courage to go there when Swali is in town. Can you imagine. Assume we’re walking through Army’s dream land.... Clouds, beers, soccer balls, big boobed bikinied babes, soft pillows, warm duvets, other people’s clothes... Heaven (to some). Then all of a sudden grey clouds move across the sky and the calming music turns to somehting from ACDC (back in black or Highway to Hell). The soft pillows burst into flame, the clothes decay in front of your eyes, the soccer balls pop, the beers go warm and flat and little horned goat men with sharp teeth run amok raping the brilliantly breasted beauties. Can you imagine that shit? I won’t be doing an interview with him anytime soon. Swali sitting on a throne breathing fire with little horns poking through his hair. Fuck me that’s a terrifying thought. Anyway. That’s the deal for the next few interviews. Right now we’ll get stuck into a brief discussion with none other Nic ‘Fridge’ Bailey.

Bug: Nic, you joined the Cobras at the beginning of the year.

Nic: Correct

Bug: Sorry I wasn’t quite finished there. I was building towards a question. Not the lack of inflection.

Nic: Sorry. Inflection is very interesting isn’t it?

Nic: What?

Bug: Do you watch Community?

Nic: No?

B: Enough now. So what did you envision when you joined this wonderful family?

N: Well I always knew you guys threw a bit of a vibe from when I played for the Socos many years ago. I hadn’t been enjoying my rugby and I needed a fresh start with an aspiring team. It’s worked out really well.

B: As it has for us Nic. Thank you for your participation. It’s been a great contribution. Tell me... what does Nic Bailey get up to on his weekends when he isn’t playing rugby?

N: Well I’ll probably be watching it. Other than that I’m always making a mission to find some waves around the Cape peninsula. It keeps me going. I recently went on a trip to Indo and that was just mind altering. It was tough to come back and start work again.

B: I know what you mean. Actually I don’t. The real working stage of my life hasn’t quite begun but when it does I’ll be knocking on your door (figuratively speaking of course) for some advice on how to manage the pain. Is that ok?

N: I suppose so.

B: Thanks for your kindness.

B: Do you realise that the letter N (indicating your responses in this interview) and the letter B (indicating my responses) are your initials. Quite a mind fuck. B stands for Bug obviously but were the reader not so intimately familiar with the Cobras and me then they might think you were talking to yourself. Are you talking to yourself Nic?

NO MISTAKES POLICY IN QUATER FINALS CLASH

The quarter finals are here and teams know that no mistakes can be afforded if they tend to qualify for a spot in the semi finals. Teams are expected to field there strongest teams for the next two weeks as they make a surge for a spot in the finals.

Wednesday night will see the entire Steinhoff Internal league battle it out on the Green mile as they try and cement a place for the next round, with the knock out phase now in place teams seriously can’t afford to slip up.

In the Champions section Nadoes and Cobras the two most experienced teams will be keeping and eye on each other’s progress as there is unfinished business between the two, and there is a possibility that the two could meet in the Finals. Cobras play Ikhaya and Nadoes play the Wild Boys. MOB and Spanners the teams that have really come to the forefront could just be the surprise packages for this year as they to have showed why they are in the quarters with and impressive vain of form.

The Cup winners sections have the remainder of teams on the war parth for the league Cup. Panthers, Catsville and Turtles narrowly being beaten for a spot in Section A. So they do seem the favourites to win this section.

Both sections will have some awesome matches as teams step up their game.

A man of many talents!

After many failed ‘I’ll call you back’s’, Stefan Terblanche, the new coffee and calculator configuration man at Allan Gray, managed to slot me in at the tail end of his coffee and bagel run, and this is what the Boland, Griquas, Sharks, Springbok and lastly Cobras Stalwart had to say.

1.Some say that you are the old man, the stalwart if you like, of the Cobras setup. Do you think that is because of your resounding resemblance to the great Stefan Terblanche?

I think that there are a few of us in our fifth year of Cobras Rugby now and it really is true that you can't buy experience. I like to think i bring a bit of stabillity to the back like Stefan but truth be told I cannot really see much of a resemblance.

2. Do you even look up to the man? I mean we all do, but you must especially.

I used to think he was a pretty solid fullback with a great up and under but I think it's time for the old man to hang up his boots before people really start taking the piss out of him (and me).

3. As a Cobra co founder what do you think about the vibe in this year’s camp?

I must say there is nothing that gets me more revved up than a game of Rugby on the Green Mile. We have always had a good vibe in the past but I must say that I think this is one of the better vibes we have had. There is a belief amongst the boys that we will win this trophy and that belief and passion is what will take us to the top. From the so called "stalwarts" to the guys in their first year everyone has brought an incredible vibe and I just can't wait to lift that trophy in a couple of months time.

4. What do Wednesday nights on the Green Mile mean to you?

Wednesday nights are what gets me through a kak week at work. It is basically the beginning of the weekend for me.

5. A Sunday with the books in hand and a calculator just to double check, or a Cobras touch session?

I can't even think of something witty to say here...Touch of course.

6. Stellies jol or a Cape Town jol?

I enjoy the odd Stellies jol but I'm a Cape Town person myself and would pick a messy Tiger session over a Filthy Terrace night. Though, as i said, I do also enjoy the odd bit of a Stellies vibe.

7. Any scandal you can reveal to use that you have heard/ learnt during your time thus far at AG?

Not much hey though I do know how much Bishops and all your parents have in reserves.

8. How do you carbo load on a Tuesday before internal league Wednesdays?

Ideally a quiet beer with the boys at Forries is always a good way to get into the vibe otherwise a nice bowl of Spag Bol in front of the fire watching Boots n All with Naas.

9. I hear you’re a big fan of the Sharks. ‘Black and white, nothing else matters’, apparently . Your kinda vibe?

There is nothing that boils my blood more than a guy who lives in Cape Town and supports the Shark. I mean really if you have lived here for more than two years surely you have come to your senses by now...PROOOOOVINCE for life.

10. How do you take your coffee? Black with one sugar, with milk, or do you just crunch on the beans like a real financial advisor?

Don't drink coffee hey it upsets my sleeping patterns.

11. What’s your most cherished gadget?

I would have to say my Nokia cell phone. It's basically a torch with a cellphone attached. They say it's bigger than the Blackberry.

12. What do you do for a bit of ‘me time’?

I like to get out into the mountain - anything from mountain biking and running to Rock climbing.

13. Castle or Black Label, or perhaps a single malt now that you a working man?

I enjoy a whiskey on the rocks whilst playing a game of Poker but nothing beats a draught of Black Label at Forries.

14. Some say that Allan Gray was your grandfather, any truth behind the rumours?

Not that I know of...hopefully he leaves something in his will for me though.

15. Who’s your rugby idol?

My idol would have to be Chris Latham - I think we have the leg drive in common.

16. Any wise, AG inspired, words of wisdom for your fellow Cobras?

This is our fifth year of this unbelievable vibe, let's get out on that field on Wednesday night and show them the type of rugby we play. Let's run them off their feet and play the rugby we enjoy...If we do that we will not lose.

The next man on the interview list (after a somewhat lengthy break) is our scrummy stalwart Graeme ‘Stumpie’ Steen. The last time is saw this fella he was waste deep in a bucket of Castles at the Crabs Creek jol after the Knysna marathon, which non of us took part in by the way, and he was mumbling something along the lines of, ‘Hey Bra, excuse me but I’m quite sloshed (not sure how cool that word is these days) hey, but I finished exam just yesterday so I reckon you can forgive me.’ He followed up this murmur by falling off his beer stool and onto the floor, wet smelly, beer soaked oyster Knysna Lagoon floor! Not that I judge the man (for drinking or falling), any excuse for a beer right? You’re forgiven pal.

Nevertheless, here are a few words he managed to squeeze out whist reconfiguring his calculator in the Sports Centre parking lot.

Jose: Explain the story behind the name ‘stumpie’ for those who cant figure it out for themselves...

Graeme: As with most of my nicknames, Stumpie is based around my apparent lack of height. My nickname at the time was Gimli (thanks to a Dillon Mcevoy Lord of the Rings reference) until Andre Jacobs decided my height was similar to a cigarette "Stompie". This was Anglicised by the rest of the team to the Stumpie that now follows me around in rugby circles.

What are you currently studying?

PGDA. Not to be confused with the PGA, he tells me.

What does the Cobras brand mean to you?

I think Xhanti Nessi said it best when he spoke of the Cobras as a brotherhood. As we all know, the Cobras are more than just a sports team and I can't imagine what varsity would have been like without it.

What’s your best memory from your four (now 5) years in the Cobras colours?

Winning the cup, there nothing quite like it.
On the lighter side, Phil Vogets birthday celebration indicated the beginning of the ridiculousness that is the Cobras changing room. I think there's a video somewhere on the website.

I'm afraid not, otherwise you'd have heard some Cobra's changing room classics rippling through the crowd.

With five years experience, how do you think the Cobras are looking this year?

I can safely say that on paper this is the best Cobras side ever. If we click and show the desire to win than we should be unstoppable.

Please tell us the story behind your infamous, ‘I score tall chicks’ drinking song...

Oxbraai 2006, I scored a ridiculously tall female, relative to myself, and in my inebriated state began singing that now famous refrain. Little did I know that i would be hearing it for the next 4 years.

What do you do to psych yourself up before a Wednesday evening on the Mile?

I only finish lectures at six so I tend to use a two hour accounting lecture to get myself into the right state of mind. Back in the day, Warren Butler and I used to exchange sms's to ensure our heads were focussed on the game in the evening,

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

On my Yacht in the Caribbean, hiring Cobras who have come over to do a boat season on their gap year. Aim high.

Get ready to see teams kick off the second half of the season with some mouth watering fixtures comes Wednesday night.

With a one and a half month break from Internal leagues teams are gearing up to finalize some game tactics before there kick-offs on Wednesday. Expect the Green Mile to be swamped with players for the next two days as players get back into the swing of things.

Top teams such as the Nadoes and Cobras have been seen practicing through out the duration of the Varsity break and other teams only starting today. Never the less the teams will surely show case their best as they try to gain an early advantage in their groups to stake a place in the quarter-finals.

The second half of the league season resumes next Wednesday when The Cobras take on Shebeen Boys in Round 2 of the competition...in preperation for this game there will be 3 touch sessions:

Wednesday 21st: 4pm UCT B-Field
Friday 23rd: 4pm Bishops
Sunday 25th: 4pm Bishops

Please make sure you get down to these sessions as it is important in order to get your place in the match squad for the first game back of the second semester, it looks set to be a great occasion with a Tour re-union fines to follow after the game...

On Friday night the Cobras came out firing against a physical and aggressive Bredasdorp Rugby team, who are lying 2nd in the Boland League. The Cobras walked away with a deserved 12-0 win, with solid waves of attack and brave defence, it was a great result which set the tone for the remainder of the weekend, and the second half of the season...
